Missing John John

My morning ritual of waking up and making coffee while scrolling Instagram cannot be a healthy start to the day but I’ve convinced myself that it’s part of running a small blog with a handful of readers. Today was no normal affair; my coffee was in short supply – not enough for my standard 3 cups (as any American I like my watery coffee oversupplied). I should have known right then and there that something was awry.

As I contemplated the walk to my local Carrefour to re-up on my fair-trade Ethiopian blend (saving the world one cup at a time bro) I fired up the old Insta and was confronted with the worst news of my year. A JJF post explaining how he ruptured his ACL while surfing the Oi Rio Pro in mother fucking Brazil.

GOD-DAMMIT!

I watched his heat against Wade Carmichael when he hobbled into the beach with around 10 minutes to spare. As most of us watching, I cringed at the thought of a reinjured John John, the tour is just not as exciting without his incredible man-hacks and high flying wizardry.  It was as if the Brazilian Storm had a secret voodoo doll with all pins concentrated on that back leg.

What a fucking bummer man. With J-Bay just around the corner I was very much looking forward to watching John absolutely destroy the best point break on the planet. Looks like all eyes will be on old man Slater to pick up the slack or maybe Jordy can finally get his head straight and make a run for the title. Only time will tell as his injury news just opened the floodgates of opportunity for that yellow jersey.

Here’s what JJF could have done in JBay.
